No Spoilers – The Dark Knight Rises – Review

The words below represent the opinion of PG Mike. The Dark Knight Rises is an epic comic book / action movie, and although everyone knows there is no way to top The Dark Knight, this new Batman installment was freaking badass. I believe that Heath Ledger's performance as The Joker was one of the best villains ever, only surpassed by Hannibal Lector and Darth Vader. TDKR is not as funny, but it is action packed, with a modern dystopian backdrop. Below you will not find any spoilers, as the movie was just released today, but I will give you some of my impressions of the movie. Batman - Excellent as always. Christian Bale is a top notch actor, and he delivers again in playing two characters, both with vulnerability and strength. His new "ride" is one of the highlights in the film, and Bale personifies Batman and Bruce Wayne better than any of his predecessors. Bane - Holy sh!t. Bane is the most physically fearsome villain I have seen in a long time. You will only be able to understand about 2/3 of what he says, but his use of body language more than makes up for it, and I think he might work out. You have never seen an NFL player grasp the neckline of his shoulder pads with both hands and make it look more menacing than Bane. Much respect due to Tom Hardy as Bane, as his version of anarchy is truly nerve rattling. Catwoman - Very good. Of all the aspects in TDKR that I was the most worried about, it was Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, and the probability that she would end up being the Jar Jar Binks of this film. She was surprisingly impressive, and actually provided several of the comedic moments without being campy or purely sexual. She was, in fact, pretty awesome. Special Effects - Incredible. I don't want to give anything away, but the action sequences were amazing. Some were breath-taking, and at the top of that was Batman's new "ride." Obviously, anything is possible today with CGI, but this film made it look real. Special Guests - Again, I do not want to give anything away, but my eyes popped a couple of times, and it was cool to see Mayor Carcetti, Joey Quinn, and Lt. Dangle. Overall, I would give the film an 8 out of 10 rating, with full praise to everything I mentioned above. For the closing of a tremendous trilogy, it delivered.
