Solving the World’s Problems, One Beer at a Time

PubCast #20 (This episode contains explicit language & is potentially NSFW)

In this episode of The PubGuys PubCast, the PubGuys bemoan the madness of the broken bracket in the NCAA tourney then jump headlong into the hot, hot, hot topic of healthcare (you gotta hear it). And we hold brief discussions about Nadya “Octomom” Suleman vs Vivid Video, Southpark making it to 200 episodes (who’da thunk it?), couples fighting via social networks & the City of Stephenville’s anger over Corpus Christi.
All these topics and more! And, as always, plenty of controversy & content with a bit of comedy thrown in.

For Whom the Bell Tolls. Don’t worry, it tolls not for thee, but for these:

  • *Peter Graves. Starred in Mission Impossible, Stalag 17 & Airplane. 14 March 2010. Age 83. PubGuys Hall of Fame

In this episode of The PubGuys: Sports Edition

Sports talk, PubGuys style:

Ron Washington: Should he stay or should he go? Hot topic. Hot opinions.

The Madness of March begins on 18 March, and we put it on the line for you. The winners, the losers, the brackets. Don’t forget, you can fill in your PubGuys bracket, too. So, come on and join in the mayhem (Password is beer).

Beckham. Will he come back to soccer or won’t he? There’s the (foot) rub.
Is Chel$ea the New York Yankees of English Soccer? PGKyle thinks so and encourages PGBryan to find a new team. Only time will tell.

Who’s the best?
That’s the question that over a number of episodes, the PubGuys will attempt to lay to rest finally.
Our quest? Determine by PubGuys vote who is the best wearer (or driver) of a particular number. We started at 00 and will work our way to 99, 5 or 10 at a time. Tenseness, controversy, opinion. It’s all rife. Listen in for our picks on 00 – 5.

Trivia Question:
What state holds the all time record for number of schools with at least one appearance?
Bonus question: how many teams?
Bonus Bonus: how many championchips from this state?

First, let me clarify. Unlike some people I know (you know who you are) I don’t watch the reality shows that depict former rock star Playboy midgets with 19 kids and counting. Instead I turn my weekly attention to a few of the “game show” programs such as “Amazing Race” and “Survivor.” There is a huge difference in the two.

The game show has been around since day one of television. Truth or Consequences was on the bill on the first official day of television, July 1, 1941. These modern day game shows are admittedly different in that they are not 30 min segments filmed before a live studio audience, but they do pit player against player in an effort to win some fabulous prizes or in later cases… 1MILLION DOLLARS. The shows like “Girls Next Door” or “19 Kids and Counting” are just… well… stupid. They are nothing more than a bunch of egotistical people who think we really do care. Unfortunately, for a subgroup of our society, they are correct.

So why do I watch the Game Shows? They are a cross between sports and a social experiment. When you get people competing against each other in a series of tests, you tend to get through the “acting” and see who they really are. As is the case on this season’s “Amazing Race” where human prejudice comes screaming to the surface between teams of rednecks, New  York cops, lesbians, homosexuals, and beauty queens. It is proof positive that everyone hates. And it’s fun.

P.S. No, the hypocritical nature of a blogger/podcaster writing this post is not lost on me.  It’s a bit different, but that is for a later post.
